Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is again asking for the public’s help with the investigation of a second trophy-class bull moose poached along the Jefferson River near Cemetery Road south of Cardwell.

This second bull was left to rot within one mile of the bull moose poached in late October.

FWP recently received a call from a hunter about the dead 48-inch bull moose found along the river bottom and left to waste.

Boulder-Whitehall Warden Justin Gibson said the moose was likely shot and killed about two weeks ago. He said it is not know if the two poaching incidents are related, but wardens are investigating that possibility.

“This senseless killing is yet another complete waste of an animal and a theft from the public and law-abiding sportsmen and women,” said FWP Warden Justin Gibson.

Anyone with any information about this poaching incident is encouraged to call FWP Boulder-Whitehall Warden Justin Gibson at 406-439-4017 or 1-800-TIP-MONT (1-800- 847-6668 ). Callers can remain anonymous or confidential and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1000, upon conviction of the individual(s) responsible for this crime. A generous private citizen from the Whitehall area has also donated an additional $1500 toward the TIP-MONT reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) involved in this crime.
